@Klaas Vaak, asking for the status is fine in my opinion, and I have not been asked by Giuspen to do anything. I’m just concerned.

@sisyfos: I am concerned too. I am wondering if we are looking at ‘abandonware’ because it has been a long time now that Giuseppe has not given us a sign of life. And I don’t buy the only reason put out so far that he is taking care of his family. His son was born a number of months ago, so we could expect Giuseppe to start picking up work, or at least let us know what his planning is.
I understand you don’t know more than the rest of us, but I sincerely hope Giuseppe will not let us down. Fingers crossed.26 May 2018 at 05:03 #124862
The github commit log looks healthy for a feature mature project that is basically being maintained by a single person(looks like bug fixes and feature work was pushed a few days before your comment for instance): https://github.com/giuspen/cherrytree/commits/master28 May 2018 at 08:47 #12486531 May 2018 at 08:52 #124867
There is a bit of abandonware but only in the forum 🙂
I’m still struggling to find free time since the family 2.0 (second kid born) but I’m the first user of cherrytree (using it daily at work) and really keen to work on the port to gtkmm3 that is paramount.
I will likely release a new pygtk version soon in the meanwhile with mostly bug fixes.
May the source be with you 🙂31 May 2018 at 12:27 #12486929 August 2018 at 07:41 #124969
From my post in the MX Linux forum:
I’m using CherryTree-0.38.5, every day. I downloaded the latest from https://www.giuspen.com/cherrytree/
It is very handy for storing notes, documents, images, references, etc., of things I wish to refer to from time to time.
I had requested the repo team at MX Linux, based on Debian Stretch & antiX, to include the latest CherryTree in the repository. Which they did, but they commented in the forum:
A port would be timely, since the support libraries for the current version aren’t in Debian testing any longer, which means it can’t be installed there or in any upcoming MX version based on Buster.
Thanks for this truly useful application.

Hi @richard, thanks I know the porting is more and more urgent. I’ve been able to make some small but important progress in the summer completing the support for password protection without using an external command line binary (p7zip is now built from sources together with the the cherrytree C++ sources). About the time to dedicate to it, I’m starting to wake up earlier every morning to have a daily timeslot, so the progress will boost.

Thanks, I understand the time pressure issue 🙂
and I do appreciate your work and the CherryTree.
All the best wishes in your daily life.

CherryTree 0.38.5 is in the antiX and MX repos:
MX dev: We do have the current 0.38.5 release in the MX 15/16 and 17 test repos, by the way:…
antiX dev: It (0.38.5 release) is also in main antiX repos and has been working ok without issue.7 October 2018 at 20:49 #124989
I do not think there is life with out CherryTree. The only time it is not running on my computer is when I am rebooting.
There is no real need for any new features. I do how ever would like to know where I would find the list of icons used in the tree and how I can add more. Mr. G need not reply to this as family comes first ALWAYS.
Hmm, my bad. I thought I was relying on Sisyfos’s post…
I think Giuspen is busy taking care of his family. I think we should let him catch his breath and develop at his own pace (which he has done extremely well so far) and avoid bombing him with requests of all sorts.
I am worried that it will wear him down and that Cherrytree might become abandonware (I certainly hope that this will not be the case, it is the best piece of software I have seen in a long, long time)
I hope all is well with Giuspen and his close ones.
Best of wishes to Mr. G. “Spend as much time with them lil ones as you can now. They grow up way too fast.”10 October 2018 at 12:03 #124990
Machine translation, sorry:
I consider your program the best one presented in this field and thank you for your work.
It is a pity that life circumstances do not allow you to continue developing, I personally see, as I think others, that there is still a need to expand the functionality of the program.
I hope you will not abandon the work on the program and thank you again!15 October 2018 at 15:13 #124994

He is developing steadily. See: https://github.com/giuspen/cherrytree/commits/master16 October 2018 at 07:42 #124995
I meant that cherritrei does not develop.
Or is it not?
Otherwise, where can I see versions above 0.38.6?16 October 2018 at 07:51 #124996
