I have portable version 0.38.1 and want to install 0.38.2. In the instructions it says to create a config.cfg in the 0.38.2 folder, but in the 0.38.1 folder there is such a file already. So is it sufficient to copy that file from 0.38.1 to 0.38.2.
If so, is that the only thing that needs to be done?5 September 2017 at 11:21 #124402
Yes, that is all you need to do (that’s all I do myself).

So why can’t I use the config.cfg file from the previous version, i.e. from 0.38.1, and just copy that to the 0.38.2 folder? I want to keep my settings.6 September 2017 at 08:26 #124404
You can copy the config.cfg from the previous version (it is just an empty file, I have no clue where the settings are saved)

Do you mean to tell me that every time you replace the portable version with a newer one you reset all the settings?7 September 2017 at 08:29 #124406
I don’t reset anything, config.cfg is empty (at least on my machines as far as I know) all the time. All I have to do is to replace the icons in the Glade folder (I have some custom ones). When I upgrade, and have replaced the icons, everything looks and acts like before the upgrade.9 September 2017 at 19:42 #124409
config.cfg should be filled up by cherrytree actually, it surprises me that it does not for @Siyfos.
If you run cherrytree.exe and there is a local config.cfg (same parent folder of the exe, empty or with valid settings), cherrytree uses that instead of the default which is %appdata%\cherrytree\config.cfg
I’ll try that again with 0.38.29 September 2017 at 19:51 #124410
Works as expected for me… are you sure yours is a “config.cfg” and not a “config.cfg.txt”? not the same thing (I hate windows hiding the file extensions by default)10 September 2017 at 09:58 #124411
I am using the portable cherrytree version. The only config.cfg my PC shows is in %appdata%\cherrytree\, and its size is 4kb.There is no such file in the folder where cherrytree.exe is.
So my question is: when it comes to using the next upgrade, i.e. 0.38.3, I want to preserve all my settings. So what should I do after I download the package?11 September 2017 at 08:47 #124412
I’m running Linux at home and is forced to use Windows at work. It seems like Windows is appending a .txt. I’ll change that. Thank you for the hint and for an outstanding program!

@Klaas if you use the portable version but you don’t really want to port it around (in a usb key) just leave the config.cfg under %appdata%\cherrytree\ – All versions point to that location unless you copy that file into the same folder where cherrytree.exe is, in that case cherrytree starts to use that local file12 September 2017 at 06:20 #1244163 December 2017 at 15:11 #124641
@giuspen: I would like to install CT on my PC instead of having a portable version. IF I read your last answer well, the installed version of CT also points to that config.cfg file in the %appdata%\cherrytree\ folder and all my settings will be preserved.
Correct?7 December 2017 at 12:41 #124663
