Tagged: shrunk expanded nodes memory

First of all I would like to thank you for your work. We are using this software in my company as we were looking an alternative to Treepad, and it is being really useful to us.
We have however a suggestion we would love to see implemented (maybe it is and we couldnt find it!): We think it would be great if everytime you create a new node (Insert new node name… window) or you Change Node Properties you could choose whatever you want to see this node expanded or not when you open a database or start the program with the most recently open database..
And then, in edit -> preferences there could be an option to choose whatever (everytime you load a database) you would like to see all nodes shrunk, expanded, in the same state as the last time it was open or respecting the choice you made in the addition before commented.
Would be that possible? do you think its a good idea?.26 February 2012 at 22:14 #1802
Gisupene please let me know if its everything clear with the explanation i gave.. could you let me know if it is an idea you might consider or if, on the contrary, you don’t like the idea?

in the current implementation there’s already the memory of latest expanded/collapsed nodes and focused node.
When you close cherrytree, the next time you open it the expanded/collapsed nodes and focused node are restored.
The expanded/collapsed nodes information is not stored in the document but in the configuration file since I would not consider a cherrytree document in the need to be saved just because the user changed the focused node or expanded/collapsed a node.
I could change my mind if many users disagree with this.

Thanks for your answer. We understand what you mean, however we need something a little different, I’ll try to explain it to you:
In my department we are 10 people using the same computer (and so the same database/cherrytree document) in diferent times and diferent days of the week. We have a huge tree with a lot of nodes and subnode levels. What we want most is that everytime one of my patners open the document he can see only the most important nodes expanded (in the way that I, the team manager, decide) and the others collapsed; if he opens it and he see all the nodes in the state the last patner left it, he would have to close some nodes, open some other nodes and so on.. (even worse is the option of expand all nodes or collaps all nodes).
So we would love a feature to choose what nodes you like to see expanded by default when everytime you open the document (without caring what nodes where expanded the last time).
I hope i could explain myself better this time.. thanks a lot for your support. Looking forward for your answer.

I understand your need, I added an item in the TODO list but don’t know when I’ll find the free time for it.
