First of all, I love this program. I have been addicted to note takers since late 2004. I have one large note file (20MB) this literaaly has my whole life for the last 20 years on it. I imported it from notecase into cherrytree yesterday, and I am blown away. It imported nealy perfectly. It has all the features I really missed on the other packages. This is BY FAR the best package I have ever tried.

My question is, has anyone thought about making a windows portable app of this with python and gtk all buit in? Here’s my dilema: I carry my data on a usb stick. It’s a bootable Lubuntu with notecase on it. I also have a fat32 partition on the drive which has some portable windows apps, including notecase.exe, so that in the case I am using a windows only computer, I can acces my .nce file from a windows host. I really don’t want to muck up a friends xp machine by installing python, adding a dll, and gtk before I can access my file. I wonder how hard it would be to make a portable app out of this. Any thoughts?

One suggestion: add a “donate” button to the website. I would like to be the first to throw some cash at this, the program is worth it to me!

I understand your needs, will try to create a portable windows archive for the next version.
As for the donate thank you, maybe I’ll add it in future :)
Cheers.

giuspen,

Thanks for your very prompt reply. My intent was not that you should create the portable app (your time is much too valuable for a task like this). It was my hope that one of your windows users would see the value and volunteer to create the portable app. I have been windows free (Linux only) for my own use for about 10 years; my xp skills are a bit rusty, and I have no experience in Vista nor 7, but perhaps I will try this myself to save you the effort. In any case, there is no rush.

I’m hooked on cherrytree!

Giuseppe: A portable version would be very useful to me as well, mainly for work, and for similar reasons (I have to avoid installing apps on customer PC’s).

mmullers: I’m very curious — how exactly do you have your notes organized to encompass 20 years?

the portable version was created successfully from mmullers and will be soon available to download.
