Looking forward to the 0.24 version but I’ve got a small problem. I tried to install it and got the following error:

Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: python-gtk2 (>= 2.20)

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04, so I don't know if that affects what version of GTK I am able to upgrade to or not.

In any case I did a dpkg -l libgtk[0-9]* | grep ^i and got

ii libgtk2-imageview-perl 0.05-1 Perl bindings for the GtkImageView image viewer widget
ii libgtk2-perl 1:1.221-4ubuntu2 Perl interface to the 2.x series of the Gimp Toolkit l
ii libgtk2-ruby 0.19.3-1ubuntu3 GTK+ bindings for the Ruby language
ii libgtk2-ruby1.8 0.19.3-1ubuntu3 GTK+ bindings for the Ruby language
ii libgtk2-trayicon-perl 0.06-1 Perl interface to fill the system tray
ii libgtk2.0-0 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 The GTK+ graphical user interface library
ii libgtk2.0-bin 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 The programs for the GTK+ graphical user interface lib
ii libgtk2.0-cil 2.12.9-4 CLI binding for the GTK+ toolkit 2.12
ii libgtk2.0-common 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 Common files for the GTK+ graphical user interface lib
ii libgtk2.0-dev 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 Development files for the GTK+ library
ii libgtk2.0-doc 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 Documentation for the GTK+ graphical user interface li

Could you point me in the right direction. If it's a matter of finding someway to upgrade my GTK I'll continue to look into that.

Thanks.

Yes the problem is that I started to use the version 3.10.x of http://glade.gnome.org/ and that caused the GTK requirement to rise up to 2.20 (not satisfied in ubuntu 10.04).
I’m afraid there’s no way to upgrade GTK version in ubuntu 10.04 since the whole gnome desktop you are running is built on a particular older GTK version.
I will try to go back to the old version of the tool (if that is possible) and for the next version lower the GTK requirement but for now you have to go back to 0.23.1 on ubuntu 10.04.

Good to know I’m assessing things correctly (a bit more often). It was quite humbling to move over to Linux about eighteen months ago after I had about fifteen years invested in the Windows environment.

Thanks for the consideration in moving GTK versions back. Especially since I’ve read there are a lot of people that don’t like the user interface moves that are happening with the newer versions of Ubuntu.

I’ll still look the possible move to another GUI some more on my end. I’ve considered moving over to a KDE desktop on a couple of occasions and then there is that whole 20/20 hindsite thing where I think I wish I had started in Linux Mint.

I also didn’t like ubuntu unity at the beginning and used linux mint 11 gnome for a while.
When 11.10 was issued anyway I forced myself to use it (mainly to have my apps working there) and I have to say if you customize it a bit it is usable.
First I use unity-2d that is lighter, then block the left panel (hate autohide), then install a couple of indicators (multiload, weather), force the system to show icons in menus and buttons and so on…
I tried kde more than once and always discarded it.
Finally I read about linux mint 12 but don’t want both upper and lower panels (gnome 3) since I have widescreen.
I tried gnome 3 for a while but didn’t like it so far, I prefer unity (which is anyway built upon gnome 3).

I was thinking about upgrading today but thought I was shoot you a message to see if you were able to get that GTK requirment a bit lower.

If not then would it be possible to use the “stand alone version” of Cherry Tree as a possible solution? Advantages/Disadvantages if that is even possible?
