Would it be possible to make Cherrytree Dropbox aware?

By that, I mean that I use Cherrytree on multiple computers, but I like to keep a common file in my Dropbox folder — and I don’t always shut down my various computers.

If Cherrytree recognized when the current CTD file had been changed by another Cherrytree instance (and the file updated by Dropbox, in this case), it could reopen the current file, couldn’t it?

I recognize that if there were changes in the current local version that hadn’t been saved yet, there might be a conflict. If you cannot merge the changes, you could make this optional. I am perfectly willing to let my current changes be lost — although I think such conflicts would be rare as I am only one person and am infrequently at more than one computer at a time (it does happen sometimes, but…)

Currently, if I leave Cherrytree running on one computer, make changes on another and later return to the first computer, if I try to make changes on the first computer, Cherrytree crashes because the file on disk doesn’t match the one in memory (as Dropbox has changed it.) I have to remember that I made changes, and restart Cherrytree before using it again.

Workable, but it requires me to remember stuff, which I am less and less capable of as I get older. :)

This feature would also be really useful for networked group usage, particularly if you get to the point where you can export as an HTML file — you could use Cherrytree to write books, manuals, wikis, etc.

With version 0.21, does –

“• now multiple instances are allowed and handled”

– mean that I can use multiple CherryTree’s on different computers to modify one CTD file on the network (or in DropBox)?

Aloha!

So far multiple instances acting on different cherrytree documents, modifying the same document from multiple instances is not handled yet.

Thanks for the explanation!

Been terribly busy, or I would have checked back here sooner.

Thanks, also, for the continuing development.
